Effective: October 5, 2026
Ojee Labs built Last Word as a free-to-download daily word puzzle for iPhone and Android, with an optional Last Word+ subscription or one-time purchase. This Privacy Policy explains what data is collected when you use the app, how it is used, and your rights with respect to that data. Last Word has no ads and no sign-up, and we collect only what we need to run the daily puzzle, the leaderboard, and to improve the game.
Who We Are
Last Word is developed and published by Ojee Labs. For any privacy-related questions or requests, you can reach us at:

Data We Collect
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other information that directly identifies you. The app signs you in anonymously, with no account to create.
- Anonymous player ID — When you first open the app, Firebase Authentication (by Google) creates a random anonymous ID for your install. It lets the leaderboard know which entries are yours. It is not tied to your identity, and reinstalling the app creates a new one.
- Leaderboard entries — For each daily puzzle you play while it is still that day's puzzle, our servers store the chains you found (as positions in the grid), your points, whether you found the full chain or showed the solution, how many hints you used, and when your plays reached us. We use these to check your score and rank you on that day's leaderboard. Puzzles played from the Library are never sent.
- Puzzle delivery times — When the app downloads the day's puzzle, we record when it was first delivered to your anonymous ID, so Fastest Solve times are measured by our servers and can't be faked.
- Leaderboard name — If you choose one, the name you build from our two word lists (for example, “Velvet Otter”). Names can only be made from our lists, never typed freely. Your name appears on the public daily leaderboard, along with your points, chains found, and solve time.
- App integrity checks — The app uses Firebase App Check, which asks Apple (App Attest or DeviceCheck) or Google (Play Integrity) to confirm that requests come from a genuine copy of Last Word. This helps keep the leaderboard fair. These checks do not give us any personal information.
- Gameplay analytics — Summary events collected via PostHog, such as when you open a puzzle, submit a chain, reach a rank, use a hint, find the full chain, share a result, or view the upgrade screen, along with puzzle numbers, chain lengths, points, and time to solve. Analytics never include the puzzle's words or letters, the order of your chains, or your leaderboard name. Events are linked to a separate anonymous analytics ID.
- Coarse location — PostHog estimates an approximate location (such as country or city) from your IP address. We do not access your device's GPS or precise location.
- Device information — Device model, operating system and version, app version, and language. Used to find bugs and prioritize compatibility fixes.
- Purchases — Whether you have Last Word+ and which plan, managed by RevenueCat with its own anonymous app user ID. We never receive your payment information. All purchases are handled by Apple or Google.
Data Stored Only on Your Device
The following stays on your device and is never sent to us:
- Your progress on each puzzle, including Library puzzles, and the tile order
- Your play streak
- Your Haptics, Reminders, and share card settings
- Downloaded puzzles, so they play offline
This data, and your anonymous player ID, are deleted if you uninstall the app.
Notifications
If you allow notifications, Last Word schedules up to three reminders on your device if you haven't opened the app for a couple of days, and never at night. These are local notifications scheduled on your device. They are not sent from a server, and we do not collect a push token. Reminders never include puzzle words or answers. You can turn them off in the app's Settings or in your phone's settings.
Sharing Your Results
When you tap Share, the app creates a result card with your puzzle number, rank, chain counts, hints used, and, if you have one, your leaderboard name. It never includes the puzzle's words. The card is only sent where you choose to share it.
Data We Do Not Collect
- Your name, email address, or any contact information
- Your precise location or GPS data
- Your advertising identifier (IDFA or Android advertising ID). We do not track you across other apps or websites.
- Your camera, microphone, or photo library
- Your contacts or calendar
- Payment card details or financial information (all purchases are processed by Apple or Google)
- Any data from other apps on your device
Third-Party Services
The app uses the following third-party services, each of which has its own privacy policy:
- Google Firebase — anonymous sign-in, App Check, and the servers that deliver puzzles and run the leaderboard. Governed by Firebase's privacy and security information and Google's Privacy Policy.
- PostHog — anonymous gameplay analytics. Governed by PostHog's Privacy Policy.
- RevenueCat — Last Word+ purchase and subscription management. Governed by RevenueCat's Privacy Policy.
- Apple App Store and Google Play — purchases, app integrity checks, and review prompts. Governed by Apple's Privacy Policy and Google's Privacy Policy.
We do not sell your data to any third party. We do not show ads or share your data with advertisers.
Data Retention
Leaderboard entries, puzzle delivery times, and leaderboard names are kept with your anonymous player ID so past leaderboards stay accurate. Anonymous analytics events are retained for up to 24 months and then deleted. Purchase records are kept by RevenueCat, Apple, and Google so your purchase can be restored.
Children's Privacy
Last Word is suitable for all ages, but it is not directed to children and is not part of the App Store Kids Category or Google Play's Designed for Families program. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The app has no accounts, chat, or user-generated text, leaderboard names can only be built from our curated word lists, and the data we collect is tied only to anonymous IDs. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your data under laws such as the GDPR (European Union) or CCPA (California). Because we collect only anonymous identifiers, we cannot identify you from them alone. However, you may:
- Request information about the data associated with your leaderboard name or install
- Request deletion of your leaderboard entries and name. Include your leaderboard name, which is unique, so we can find them.
- Request deletion of analytics data, or opt out of future analytics, by contacting us
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@ojeelabs.com.
Security
We use industry-standard practices to protect the data we collect. All data is sent over encrypted HTTPS connections. Our database can't be read or written by the app directly; only our servers can access it. Progress and settings are stored in your device's sandboxed app storage, which other apps cannot access.
Changes to This Policy
If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the effective date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
