Playing
How do I play?
Tap words to build a chain where each word starts with the last letter of the word before it, then tap Submit. Every valid chain scores, longer chains score much more, and a chain also scores every shorter chain inside it. Every grid hides exactly one chain that uses all 12 words. You can replay the tutorial any time from How to play on the home screen or in Settings.
When does the new puzzle come out?
Every day at 08:00 UTC, the same moment for everyone in the world. That's midnight Pacific Time (1 am during daylight saving time), 3 am Eastern (4 am during daylight saving time), and 8 am in London (9 am in summer). The home screen counts down to it once you've finished the day's puzzle.
Why did my chain say “Broken link”?
Somewhere in the chain, a word doesn't start with the last letter of the word before it. Chains are only checked when you submit, so you can tap words in any order while you work it out. Tap the last word again to remove it, or Clear to start over.
How do hints work?
Tap the lightbulb. Hints point you toward the full chain in three steps: mark both ends, show how many words can come before and after each word, then reveal the next link. Each step used lowers the highest rank you can reach by one, but your points still count in full. If you use “reveal next link”, that solve won't count for Fastest Solve.
Can I play offline?
Yes. Once a puzzle has downloaded, it plays fully offline. Your plays reach the leaderboard the next time you're online, as long as that's before the next puzzle comes out at 08:00 UTC.
Leaderboard
Why isn't my score on the leaderboard?
Scores sync when you're online. If you played offline, open the app with a connection and it will catch up. Plays that reach us after the puzzle's day has ended (08:00 UTC) don't count for that day, and Library puzzles never go on the leaderboard.
Why am I not on Fastest Solve?
Fastest Solve lists players who found the full chain, timed by our servers from when the puzzle first downloaded to your phone. Solves that used “reveal next link” aren't included.
How do I change my leaderboard name?
Go to Settings → Leaderboard name → Change. Names are built from two word lists, and a new name takes effect from the next day's puzzle. If someone already has the name you pick, yours gets a number on the end.
Streaks and Progress
How does my streak work?
Your streak goes up by one on each day you submit at least one valid chain on that day's puzzle. Days follow the 08:00 UTC puzzle day, not midnight where you are. Library puzzles don't count toward your streak.
I got a new phone or reinstalled. Where's my progress?
Puzzle progress, your streak, and your settings are stored only on your phone, and there's no account, so they can't be moved or restored. A reinstall also starts you with a new leaderboard identity, so you'll choose a name again. Last Word+ can always be restored: see below.
Last Word+
What does Last Word+ include?
Every past puzzle in the Puzzle Library, back to #1, and replaying any Library puzzle from scratch. The daily puzzle, hints, the leaderboard, and the last 7 days of the Library are free for everyone, so Last Word+ never helps on the leaderboard.
How do I restore my purchase?
Go to Settings → Restore purchases, signed in to the same Apple ID or Google account you bought with. This works after a reinstall or on a new phone.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed by Apple or Google. In the app, go to Settings → Last Word+ → Manage, or:
- iPhone: Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Last Word
- Android: Google Play → your profile picture → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Last Word
Cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends to avoid the next charge. You keep Last Word+ until the end of the period you've paid for.
Can I get a refund?
Refunds are handled by the store you bought from. On iPhone, request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. On Android, see Google Play's refund help.
Notifications
How do I turn reminders on or off?
Use the Reminders switch in Settings. Last Word only reminds you after a couple of days away, never at night, and never with spoilers. If the switch says notifications are off in your phone's settings, turn them on there first.
Your Data
How do I delete my leaderboard data?
Email support@ojeelabs.com with your leaderboard name and we'll delete your entries and name. See our Privacy Policy for what we collect.
